My head hurts.

Work was a little better than yesterday, although it still pretty much sucked due to the fact that I've had the headache from hell all day.  Painkillers and the sixteen gallons of water I've consumed over the day don't seem to be helping any either.  If it gets any worse I just might call it a night.

I finally got a chance to see Eyes Without a Face and I was pleasantly surprised by it.  Very decent performances aside, one of the most surprising things about the film itself, was to discover just how influential it's been to other more prominent film makers like Nakata and Carpenter, the latter especially.  Ever wonder where Carpenter got the idea for the blank mask in Halloween?  Watch this film and you'll know.

Sure, it's cheesy in places, but what film from the early sixties isn't?

It's definitely one to watch - if you don't mind subtitles that is.

Well.

Well Doctor Who was bloody fantastic I must say. RTD seems to be on a roll. Tate and Cribbins were on fire for the whole episode, I was even happy to see Rose and I wasn't expecting to at all.  5/5.  Can't wait for next week.

Bah

A Boring Post.

Yesterday was a complete washout.  In what seemed like a good idea at the time, I decided to get rid of a few of my cds, there was a fair amount I hadn't listened to in years.  So I gathered up all I could carry, about sixty in total, and trailed around second hand record shop to second hand record shop in the vain hope that I might get a tiny amount of money for them.  Of course, they weren't interested.  There isn't a huge demand for nineties metal music and the cds they might have been interested in, they already had in abundence.

So they all went to a charity shop, including the other fifty odd that I couldn't carry around with me.  So some granny somewhere is currently banging her to Morbid Angel and Green Day.  Heh.

I'm still living in a stock room though.

I also finally managed to get a chance to see Gormenghast.  Ten years in the waiting and I really shouldn't have bothered.  Apparently no one actually bothered to read Peake's classic before filming it and just decided to perform a pantomine instead.  I managed to stomach about two episodes before switching it off and sending the DVD back.  I can't believe that they're are people out there who actually rave about it.  Good grief.  Two hours of my life I'll never get back again. If there's anyone out there who hasn't seen it yet, don't bother.  Just read the book instead.  No, really.

I'm not sure about one of these, so...

Bah

Well, it's Thursday.

Been ill these past couple of days, picked a bug up at work.  It's ever so slightly strange that despite the fact that people will drop like flies around me, I just tend to feel completely washed out and utterly shitty whenever a bug starts going around.  I don't know if that's a good thing or not, considering the ones who end up at death's door tend to get over it a hell of a lot quicker than I do.  I'll still be like this in a week.  I guarantee it.  Happens every time.

Needless to say, aside from managing to get out of bed and drag myself to work - the boss hates illness - i've done nothing else, except vegetate in front of the TV watching drivel.  It hasn't been a great week.  Next week isn't looking that great either.

Long overdue disclaimer post.

Since I have no artistic talent to speak of, I tend to go to icon communities, take a few icons that I like, promise to credit - then promptly forget.  In a attempt to correct this oversight, I went back to the said communities and tried to find the talented people who made the pretty pictures that I like so much.

It's over:)

well, that's the late shifts finished for another month and I've got a whole two days off.  That's right.  Two days.  Now, It'd be amazing if I had any money to do anything, but since that's not the case, It looks like I'll just be hanging around the house and maybe nipping over to a friends' place.   I can't wait for pay day.  Seriously.

I finally got around to watching Torchwood, courtesy of Ilovefilm.com, and I can't say I was that impressed with it.  I can't really put my finger on it, but I was just a bit meh after the first couple episodes.  It could be the John Barrowman effect, he's practically everywhere on TV right now, so much so that I'm sick of the sight of him and there's nothing that really stands out enough in the show to make his presence negligible enough for me to want to watch the rest of the series.  Shame really, as I was looking forward to it too.

I might try again in a couple of months,  once the BBC has decided that he really doesn't need to be on the amount of programs that he's on.  No really.

Jun. 10th, 2008

Bah

Gah. I hate late shifts.

Seriously.  You don't really get a morning and you sure as hell don't get an evening after they're done.  I feel completely braindead - well, more than I usually do at rate.

All I want to do is just slouch in front of the tv and drool, I think I can maybe manage a shopping channel, although I might struggle a bit....and while we're on the subject, why the hell is ilovefilm.com so determined to not send me Gormenghast and Eyes Without a Face?

I can't imagine that there's a huge demand for either of them.  Gormenghast has been around for years and EWA is a pretty obscure film, so unless the website has just the one copy of it and some film buff somewhere is holding it hostage, I really don't see what the problem is.  It's been six weeks already!  *pouts*

Oh, and if anyone is even remotely interested, there's a video of the wedding up, that I'm not in - thankfully.  It's here

The two Ws

My sister's wedding made it into the local newspaper.  If anyone wants to read the article, then they can do so here.  Although, please try and ignore the more fuck-witted ignorant comments beneath it.

Back at work today.  It wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be, it went quite quickly, so I can't really complain that much.  I'm sure that'll change given silly season has now begun.

Oh, yeah, and my shoulders are still sore despite drowning them in after sun.  Heh.

Done and dusted

Well, despite being slightly hungover and burnt to a crisp, I'm pretty happy today.   Our fears that there might be rain during the afternoon were completely unfounded, as my poor shoulders can attest.  The weather couldn't have been more perfect.

The ceremony itself was absolutely beautiful, and was probably the most memorable wedding I'm ever going to attend.  Who the hell needs churches, or registry offices with some person who doesn't even know the couple in question, prattling on about some generic idea of what marriage should be, asking them to make one-size-fits all vows?

If by some random chance I ever get married, that's the way it's going to be.  Just me and the groom, friends and relatives, and a non denominational minister - who only has to produce the wedding certificates at the end.  I'll write my own statements, my own promises, it just seems more personal that way.

In a Past Life...

You Were: An Insane Herbalist.

Where You Lived: Quebec.

How You Died: Natural causes.

You Are Disturbingly Profound

You're contemplative, thoughtful, and very intense.

Taking time to figure out the meaning of life is a priority for you.

Because you're so introspective, you often react in ways that surprise people.

No one can really understand how you are on the inside... and that disturbs them.

You Are Classical Music

You are a somewhat serious person who enjoys studying subjects deeply.

Art of all kinds interests you, and a good piece of art can really effect you emotionally.

You are inspired by human achievement, and you appreciate work that takes years to accomplish.

For you, the finer things in life are not about snobbery - they're about quality.

Pretty productive couple of days...

Managed to get my outfit and hair sorted out for the wedding.  I'm all set, with the exception of the prezzie, but I know what I'm doing on that part, so I don't have to go trailing around hundreds of shops tearing my hair out in despair.

I hate shopping, I really do.  Especially shopping for clothes and shoes.  I can never find anything that fits me - dresses or trousers inevitably end up trailing the floor and anything from the petite section doesn't reach pass my knees.  I'm not even going to bring up shoes.  I just know that by the end of Saturday, I will no longer have feet, but bloody stumps on the end of my legs.  It's all good though, it is my sister after all.

Still haven't updated  my CV or even made a start on the hundred other things I swore I'd get done this week.  And I do it every time, every bloody time.  I'm the queen of procrastination, I get some time off work and I always manage to talk myself into doing something more enjoyable than what really needs to be done, I'm doing it right now.

I actually had a run in - for the first time ever - with people from the Hubbard Academy of Personal Independence today.  I didn't even realise they were card carrying members of the barmy brigade until I saw the word Dianetics in small lettering on their t-shirts.  That's the thing about the cult's presence in Edinburgh, even though they're located on a busy main street, they are still tucked away enough for you to forget about them completely.

Took me a good two minutes to get away from them as well, would've been quicker too, if they hadn't blocked my path - not to mention the fact that they just didn't seem to understand that I didn't want to take their free personality test.  It would have probably been easier had I just swore at them.  I don't like doing that though, even if they are brainwashed out of their mind...
